What you cannot see matters just as much

A durable patio, path, wall or fence starts with preparation that is rarely visible in the final photograph.

  • Protection and careful removal before excavation
  • Levels, thresholds, access and drainage considered together
  • Sub-bases compacted in layers for the intended use
  • Full-contact mortar beds and priming where required
  • Clean edges, joints, transitions and final making good
How Harry approaches the work

Built properly, priced openly

See where the money goes

HSH separates labour and material costs so the quotation is easier to understand. Raw material costs are not hidden behind an extra markup, and direct payment to a supplier may be arranged where agreed.

This does not mean every project has one simple price. Access, excavation, waste, groundwork, cuts, steps, drainage and the selected finish all affect the scope. It means those decisions are explained instead of disappearing into a single vague total.

I want customers to see exactly what they are paying for.

That straightforward principle shapes the quotation, material discussion and the way Harry communicates through the project.

One material does not suit every garden

Sandstone character or porcelain consistency?

Harry specialises in sandstone and natural stone because they can offer excellent character and value. Porcelain can be the better choice where a very consistent finish and lower porosity matter more. The guide compares appearance, maintenance, cost and installation without declaring a universal winner.

  • Natural variation versus a controlled, uniform finish
  • Porosity and routine cleaning expectations
  • Initial material cost and whole-project cost
  • Cutting, priming, bedding and edge details
  • How shade, drainage and property style affect the decision

Common questions

Clear answers before you enquire

Which areas do you cover?
HSH Services prioritises Horsham, Crawley, Billingshurst and Southwater. Cranleigh and wider locations can be considered for suitable larger projects. Send the postcode area and project outline so travel can be assessed.
Do you add a markup to raw materials?
HSH's approach is to show material costs clearly and not hide an additional markup on raw materials. Where agreed, you may be able to pay the supplier directly. Labour, disposal, plant and other project costs are still explained in the quotation.
Are you insured?
Yes. HSH Services has public liability insurance up to £1 million, as confirmed by the client on 11 August 2026.
Do you publish fixed working hours?
No. Project schedules can vary and Harry may work longer days or some weekends when appropriate. Enquiries are welcome through the contact form, phone or email without the website promising fixed on-site hours.
What helps you understand a new project?
Share the postcode area, the change you want, approximate dimensions, photographs of the work and access route, and any timing or access constraints. A site visit is normally needed before the final scope is agreed.
Do you offer resin driveways?
No. HSH advertises non-resin driveway and pathway options such as appropriate paving systems.
